Jimmie Lee Orr, 92, of Roan Mountain, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 5, 2018, at Johnson City Medical Center. Jimmie was born in Roan Mountain to the late Phillip Sheridan Orr and Mary Elizabeth Francis Orr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by nine siblings.
Jimmie retired as a school teacher for the Carter County School System and was a United States Navy Veteran, having served in World War II. He was a deacon at Morgan Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading and was an avid Civil War history buff.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving and devoted wife of 69 years, Ruth Whittington Orr, of the home; two children, Joe Orr of Elizabethton and Pam Orr Taylor and husband Jim Bryson Taylor of the Ripshin Community of Roan Mountain; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one brother, Bill Orr and wife Lil of Norfolk, Va. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor and celebrate the life of Jimmie Lee Orr will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 9, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Greg Whitehead officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 1 until 2 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. The graveside service will follow in the Peters Cemetery in the Ripshin Community of Roan Mountain. Military Honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to Morgan Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, 1782 Ripshin Mountain Road, Roan Mountain, TN 37687.
