William “Bill” Zane Peters

William “Bill” Zane Peters, 85, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at Johnson City Medical Center. Bill was born in Hampton, Tenn., to the late Mike and Texie Calhoun Peters. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Jack Peters; two sisters, Louise Hazlewood and Gail White; his second wife, Peggy Smith Peters; and his dog and companion, “Pandora”.
Bill had worked as a pipefitter and was both a United States Army veteran and a United States Navy veteran. He was of the Protestant faith and attended Prayer Tabernacle, where he served as a deacon.
Bill enjoyed riding motorcycles, woodworking, shooting muzzleloaders, riding horses and was an avid Philadelphia Eagles sports fan.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 43 years, Mary Tyree Peters, of the home; six children, Billy Manwaring and wife Carmen of Dallas, Texas, Kitty Moore and husband Ralph of Elizabethton, Gregory Zane Peters of Elizabethton, Tenn., Charles “Cowboy” Webb of Johnson City, Tenn., Wendy Webb Avery of Johnson City, Tenn., and Jeremy Daniel Peters, of the home; eight grandchildren, Samantha, Zane, Julia, Stephanie, T.J., Kristi, Tamrah and Rylan; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, George “Buster” Peters and wife Nancy of Deer Park, N.Y., and Steve Peters and wife Sherrie of Jonesborough, Tenn.; and one sister, Carolyn Magnuson and husband Terry of Mishawaka, Ind.
A service to honor and celebrate the life of William “Bill” Zane Peters will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 29, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Johnny Hilton and Pastor Mack Presnell officiating. Music will be provided by Ralph Moore, soloist. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from noon until 2 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service, or at the residence at other times. The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Al Garcia, Shawn Rivers, Joe Currington, Jim Kiser, Smokey Boling and Darrell Wagner. The family would like to express a special thanks to the emergency room staff at Johnson City Medical Center and also to the strangers who helped at the Golden Corral Restaurant in Johnson City.
