Warriors top Johnson County, hold off Flames Saturday

The Warriors used a 4-run third inning Friday to upend the Johnson County Longhorns 7-1 at Cannon-Gouge Park in a conference contest.

After going up 1-0 in the second, the Warriors kept rolling in the third. HV’s Landon Morefield got the scoring going as he hit an RBI single the right field to bring in teammate Will Hampton. Morefield would later be walked home before HV’s Nolan Easlic scored off a ground out by Warriors Luke Naylor. After three, Happy Valley led Johnson County 5-1.

The Warriors posted two more runs in the bottom of the fifth as Easlic came to the house during an error. Happy Valley’s Jacob Absher finished up the Warriors scoring as he crossed on a wild pitch.

Happy Valley’s Kevin Whitaker tossed five innings as he picked up the win. Whitaker had four strikeouts with two walks. He finished with six hits and one run against him. Warriors Travis Whitson was awarded the save as threw the final two innings. Whitson had five strikeouts and just one hit against him.

At the plate, the Warriors had eight hits as HV first baseman Nolan Easlic went 3-of-3 with three runs. Both Morefield and Absher finished the game with two RBIs each.

Saturday 

Happy Valley 13, Flames 12

The Warriors continued their winning ways Saturday as they topped the Tri-Cities Flames, 13-12.

Happy Valley’s Hampton netted teammate Whitson in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI single for a walk-off victory.

Happy Valley recorded a whopping 19 hits with Hampton going 5-of-5 on the day with four runs and two RBIs. Happy Valley’s Bailey Conley had four hits and five RBIs while HV’s Hayden Holtsclaw had three hits and an RBI.
