The Bulldogs almost saw an 11-3 lead result in a loss Friday as they hosted the Tri-Cities Flames to Hampton.
Hampton would hold on for a 13-10 nonconference win after the Flames pulled the game to an 11-10 margin.
Bulldogs pitcher Dalton Rouse picked up the win after being pulled from the game as Hampton held a sizeable lead. Rouse, however, was re-entered as the Bulldogs’ big lead began to dimish. The Bulldogs worked through two relief pitchers before Rouse went back to the mound. Hampton head coach Nicholas Perkins said it was the first time in his career that he had re-entered a starting pitcher who had been taken out.
At the plate, Hampton was led by Bulldogs Dru Owens who went 3-of-4 with two RBIs. Hampton’s Brett Deaton finished the game with two RBIs while going 3-of-4. Bulldogs Hunter Davenport was 2-of-2 on the day.
