Around 1:15 p.m. Sunday, Carter County Sheriff’s deputies were called to investigate a possible body in the Watauga River near Sycamore Shoals Drive. When deputies arrived, they found the body of a white male, who they believe to have been in the river for some time.

Investigators are working to identify the body and establish a cause of death. The body has been sent to ETSU’s Quillen College of Medicine for an autopsy.
