With various projects coming through the pipeline, a brand new nonprofit organization is looking to do its part to help.
Capitalizing on the arts and craft beer scene within the region, Go Betsy, Inc., is looking to host the inaugural “Betsy Crafts and Drafts Festival” — pending City Council — for Oct. 13 and 14 at Joe O’Brien Field near Riverside Park.
The new nonprofit organization is looking to host the event to help raise funds for projects being spearheaded by the Elizabethton IDEAS Group while assisting other agencies within the region.
“The purpose of the event is to raise funds not only for the IDEAS Group, but also some other small community organizations that are struggling financially, as well as funding projects in our region that are desperately needed,” Chris Little, IDEAS Group member, said in a request email issued to the City of Elizabethton.
According to information provided by Little, the “crafts” portion of the event — featuring local artists — will take place both days from noon to 5 p.m. while the “drafts” portion will take place on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.
Go Betsy, Inc. is currently requesting the services of one police officer from noon to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The Elizabethton IDEAS Group is currently working on several different projects within the community, with the most notable event being the Go Betsy Whitewater Park presentation at the Bonnie Kate Theater to explore the possibility of bringing a park to the city. The IDEAS Group is also working with the city’s Parks & Rec Department on improvements for Riverside and Covered Bridge Parks.
More information from the event will be made public if an approval is granted by City Council. The approval will be contingent on the city receiving insurance certification, Beverage Board approval and a state-issued special occasion permit.
