Warriors, Cyclones see top finishes at EHS meet

During a cloudy, rainy day Tuesday, there were many bright moments for the Happy Valley and Elizabethton track & field teams as the Cyclones hosted their first meet of the season at LaPorte Track.
For Elizabethton, the Cyclones nabbed five first-place finishes while the Warriors recorded three top finishes.
On the boys’ side of the track, Elizabethton’s Austin Outland raced to the top spot in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes with times of 11.74 and 24.09, respectively.
In the boys’ long jump, Happy Valley’s Austin Roark lept to the first spot with a jump of 19 feet and 11 inches. Roark was followed up by teammate Brayden Sams who took third.
Happy Valley’s Kai Norman took first in the boys triple jump with a distance of 41 feet and 10 inches. Elizabethton’s Mikael Price followed up with a leap of 36 feet and 3 inches.
The girls 1600-meter run saw Elizabethton’s Lauren Pilkton take first as she crossed the finish line at 5:41.22.
In the girls’ field events, Happy Valley’s Haley Green recorded a jump of 30 feet and 11 inches in the triple jump for a first-place finish.
In the girls’ discus, Elizabethton’s Camryn Koroma slung a 100-foot-and-10-inch throw which was good enough for first. Her teammate Jasmine Roberts took second with a throw of 85 feet and 10 inches.
It was Koroma and Roberts again in the girls shot put as Roberts took first with a 34-feet, seven-inch throw while Koroma followed with a 29-feet, 10-inch attempt.
Other notable finishes include a second place finish in the boys’ 3200-meter run by Ethan Fields who finished with a time of 11.28.91.
Cyclones Ethan Sparks threw the discus 85 feet and 10 inches for a second place finish. Happy Valley’s Cameron Slone took third in the same event.
