Julia Oliver

Julia Oliver, 90, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 12, 2018, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home. Julia was born in Banner Elk, N.C., to the late William R. Oliver and Louartie Wright Oliver. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bower Oliver; a son, Larry Oliver; two sisters, Violet Young and Anna Tester; two brothers, George McGuire and Kesher McGuire; and a granddaughter, Gina Floyd.
Julia was a homemaker and a member of Oak Street Baptist Church. She was known as a prayer warrior and her entire life was living for the Lord. She loved to entertain friends and family at her home.
Those left to cherish her memory include two sons, Jeff Oliver of Butler and Barrie Oliver of Johnson City; two grandchildren, Barrie Oliver Jr. of Johnson City and Elizabeth Curly of Atlanta; one great-granddaughter, Kristine Evans, whom she raised as a daughter; and one brother, Lee McGuire of Wilson, N.C. Several great-great-grandchildren also survive, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service to honor and celebrate the life of Julia Oliver will be conducted at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 15, at Heartland Fellowship Church of Elizabethton with Rev. Marvin Slagle, Dr. Kenneth Jordan and Rev. James Heaton III officiating. Music will be under the direction of the James Heaton family. The family will receive friends at the church from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. A private inurnment will be held at Happy Valley Memorial Park at a later time. The family would like to especially thank the doctors and staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home, Judy Deloach, Rev. Marvin Slagle and members of Heartland Fellowship Church for the love shown to Julia.
