Deborah Ammons Brogdon

Deborah Ammons Brodgon, 68, of Johnson City, lost her battle with cancer on March 9, 2018 and is now in the loving arms of our Lord and Savior. Deborah was born on November 14, 1949 in Elizabethton, Tenn., in the old St. Elizabeth’s Hospital to the late George W. Ammons Jr. and Dorsie McGee Ammons. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Matthew Garrett Woodby, and a brother, George Dexter Ammons.
Deborah had spent most of her life in Elizabethton, having graduated from Elizabethton High School. Debbie was a talented seamstress and artist. She traveled to many craft and art shows and won numerous awards for her painting and sewing.
She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. They were the light of her life. Babysitting and visiting the grandchildren was always such a special time. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church of Johnson City. She had been very active in church activities over the years. She was pianist and organist for many years, as well as a Sunday School teacher, children’s music director, VBS director and was instrumental in starting a puppet ministry at Grace Baptist Church in Elizabethton. She was also very active in her children’s school, serving as parent volunteer, PTA president, as well as several other positions.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband and love of her life, Jim Brogdon Jr., of the home; her daughters, Laura Woodby, Angela Woodby Savage and husband Andy, both of Elizabethton; two step-children, whom she loved as her own, daughter, Jennifer Farmer and husband Scott of Elizabethton, and son, Andy Brogdon of Colorado; her brother, Ron Ammons and wife Myra of Johnson City; her grandchildren, Joshua Woodby, Andy Humphrey, Felicia Humphrey, Matthew Savage, Emily Savage, Cara White, Alex White, Daniel Farmer, Cassidy Farmer, Bradley Farmer, Dylan Brogdon and Drew Brogdon; and two great-grandchildren, Matthew Grasty and Caleb Grasty. Several nieces and nephews also survive, as well as a very special and lifelong friend, Lyndell Hyder Snyder.
A gathering of remembrance for Deborah Ammons Brogdon will be conducted from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday, March 12, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to St. Jude Tricities Affiliate, 400 State of Franklin, Johnson City, TN 37604.
