Larry G. “Stonewall” Grindstaff

Larry G. “Stonewall” Grindstaff, 78, of Johnson City, went home to be with the Lord, on Sunday, February 4, 2018, at his home. He was a son of the late Odell and Oma Proffitt Grindstaff and was born in Elizabethton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Francis Grindstaff; a niece, Donna Richardson; a great-nephew, Tia Nidiffer; and his mother-in-law, Ardith “Granny” Miller.
Mr. Grindstaff was a loving husband and father. He retired after driving a truck for 28 years and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of College Park Freewill Baptist Church where he had served as a trustee.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 58 years, Betty Grindstaff, of the home; a daughter, Kim D. Grindstaff, Johnson City; and two nieces, Penny Gray and her husband, Randall, Jonesborough, and Sherry Hyder and her husband, Steve, Elizabethton. He is also survived by his special dog, Buddy.
A graveside service and interment for Larry G. “Stonewall” Grindstaff will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 8, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Pastor Jerry Cannon officiating. Music will be under the direction of David Richardson. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to East Tennessee Christian Home, 517 Allen Avenue, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
