Jerry White, 80, of Elizabethton, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2018, at his home following an extended illness. He was a son of the late Charles Sanford and Mary Blanche Ritchie White and was born in Raysal, W.Va. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie Ellen “Bo” Hardin White, and three brothers, Hubert, Arlie and Stewart White.
Mr. White was a veteran of the United States Army and was retired from Mapes Piano String Company. He was a model train enthusiast and was of the Christian faith.
Those left to cherish his memory include two sons, Joey White and his wife, Joyce, Elizabethton, and Jason White, of the home; a sister, Nell Lewis, Elizabethton; a brother, Gary White and his wife, Phyllis, Elizabethton; and several nieces and nephews.
A service to honor the life of Mr. White will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 23, in the Chapel of Peace, Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Roger Hayley and Rev. Dan Blevins officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mr. Dennis Laws. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service, or at the home at other times. A graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 24, in the Forbes Cemetery (Peters Hollow.) Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Shankles, Pie Hardin, Kenneth Colbaugh, Todd Lowe, Gale Colbaugh, Norman Peters and his co-workers from Mapes Piano String Company. Those wishing to attend are invited to meet at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Wednesday. The family would like to express a genuine and heartfelt thank you to his caregivers, Crystal Carver and Mikki Powers, Jason’s PA, Tammy Pollock and the staff of Amedysis Hospice, especially Emily White, for the love and care shown to Jerry, Jason and the family during his illness.
