From Sri Lanka to Stoney Creek, holiday spirit was spread far and wide Saturday night in Elizabethton as attendees lined the streets downtown for the annual Christmas Parade sponsored by the Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce.
With over thousands in attendance, the parade spotlighted “Christmas Around the World” with floats highlighting the different ways countries celebrate the holiday season.
Over 80 entries participated in the event, ranging from bands from different schools in the community, elected officials, dance teams, various churches, businesses and nonprofit organizations.
Milligan College served as the Grand Marshal for the night as Brutus, the college’s mascot, led the downtown convoy of cheer.
Providing diversity and positive impacts to the area made Milligan College the perfect Grand Marshal for “Christmas Around the World” according to Tonya Stevens, Chamber of Commerce director.
“They are such a wonderful organization for our community,” Stevens recently told the Elizabethton Star. “They bring a variety of students from around the world into our community.”
Floats started from Big John’s Closeouts and moved through downtown before concluding near the Carter County Courthouse. For more photos from the parade, please check out the Tuesday print edition of the Elizabethton Star.
