It never hurts to have a “Knight” stand by your side.
Representatives from the Knights of Columbus Saint Elizabeth Council visited Elizabethton City Schools administration to present a $1,300 check to T.A. Dugger Junior High special education department for a new refrigeration unit to be used by students.
“Our first principle is charity, that is what we’re all about,” said Grand Knight Tom Manning.
The check, which was presented to TAD special education teacher Regina Mullins, was provided by the M.R. Foundation of Tennessee. Knights of Columbus were able to raise funds during a drive held at the Elizabethton Wal-Mart. Once funds were raised, they were submitted to the M.R. Foundation. The Foundation is comprised of Knights and works to benefit projects for the special needs population.
“We get to use 50 percent of what we collect,” Manning said. “The other funds go into a large pot, which we can go back into to use for grants. We’ve been able to use that for Carter County and Elizabethton several times.”
Manning added the foundation has been able utilize funds at different schools within Elizabethton and Carter County and that they were excited to give back to TAD.
The Grand Knight also thanked Wal-Mart for allowing them to use their facility for the drive.
Knights of Columbus Saint Elizabeth Council was founded through the efforts of dedicated Catholic gentlemen and with the support of the Pastor of Saint Elizabeth Church. Council 10743 works closely with the members of Saint Elizabeth Parish community, as well as with the citizens of Elizabethton to provide support for various charitable projects and activities.
Mullins also thanked the efforts of the organization, adding the funds will replace an outdated refrigerator at the school.
