As the days get cooler, why not enjoy the season with a new furry friend?
With Thanksgiving around the corner, the Elizabethton/Carter County Animal Shelter is getting into the holiday spirit with the inaugural “Paws of Thanks” event, scheduled for Nov. 16-18 during regular business hours at the facility.
Thanks to community support, all adoption fees for animals have been waived due to several citizens covering the costs from sponsorship funding.
“Our shelter is thankful for our sponsors who work hard to help us give our animals a chance at a forever home,” said Shannon Posada, shelter director. “We also would like to thank our community and our shelter board for loving our furry friends as much as we do. We hope this ‘Paws of Thanks’ event brings blessings and joy to each home.
“We welcome everyone to come by and see us for this special event,” Posada added. “As Thanksgiving Day approaches, we at the Elizabethton/Carter County Animal Shelter would like to extend our thankfulness to the little lives that make big differences.”
This time of the year proves to be one the shelter’s largest periods of intake, Posada said. The director stressed the importance of having adoption events like this week’s available to help serve as many animals as possible, while providing others with their new homes.
Residents are invited to assist in different activities at the animal shelter. Over the past three months, the facility has opened up opportunities for volunteers on premise to assist with animals.
Away from the shelter, representatives from the Glenda Taylor DeLawder and Friends of the Animal Shelter Board are planning multiple events for the future to assist with fundraising.
To get involved, residents can either visit the animal shelter, contact Knight at (301) 991-0620 or attend one of the Animal Shelter Board meetings. According to the county website’s meeting calendar, the next board meeting is set for Tuesday, Nov. 28, at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
