Troy Virgil Thomason

Troy Virgil Thomason, 93, of Elizabethton, went to be with his Lord and his wife on their 69th wedding anniversary, Sunday, October 22, 2017, from his residence. Troy was born in Washington County, Tenn., to the late Frank L. Thomason and Bertha Smith Thomason. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nelle Dugger Thomason, and seven siblings.
Troy had worked in manufacturing for North American Rayon Corporation. He was a United States Army Air Corps veteran, having served in World War II from 1943-1945. He was the best Christian Dad and children loved him. He was a member of Southside Christian Church, where he had served as both a deacon and an elder. He was very active in his church and was honored for his service to the church, for over 50 years of service.
Those left to cherish his memory include one son, Richard Thomason and wife Kathy, of Elizabethton; one daughter, Patty Thomason Nelson and husband Richard, of Jonesborough; two granddaughters, Amanda Birchfield, of Elizabethton, and Jennifer Birchfield, of Newnan, Ga.; a brother, David Thomason; and two sisters, Alma South and Nell Harris. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor the life of Troy Virgil Thomason will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, October 26, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Mr. Mike Koruschak, minister, officiating. Music will be provided by Charles Dugger. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. The graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, October 27, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military Honors will be accorded by the U.S. Army and the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Bruce Cakebread, Jared Cakebread, Robert Clark, Danny Simerly, Ian Bradley and Jerry Michael Bradley. Honorary pallbearers will be Debbie Proffitt, Linda Bradley, Susan Whitehead, Joni Simerly, Connie Hicks, Stacy Bradley and the children of Southside Christian Church. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, at 1:15 p.m. Friday to go in procession.
