When you are an elected official, it is important to stay in touch with the people you serve. That is the philosophy of State Rep. Timothy Hill, who spent part of his day on Monday meeting with constituents and business professionals in Elizabethton.

Northeast Community Credit Union hosted a special meet and greet event with Hill on Monday afternoon.

“I have a tremendous energy and passion for the constituent service side of this job,” Hill said.

Hill represents the 3rd House District in the Tennessee General Assembly, which includes Johnson County, portions of Carter County, and some areas of Sullivan County including Bristol, Blountville, and Bluff City.

While speaking with those in attendance, Hill shared a story from his childhood. When he and his brother were young, he said, their grandfather took them to Eastman Credit Union and gave them their first accounts. Hill recalled his excitement on that day and said he still feels that way when dealing with a credit union.

“When you bank with a credit union you are investing back into your community,” Hill said.

Hill, who serves on both the House Insurance and Banking Committee and the Insurance and Banking Subcommittee, said he appreciates the work done by credit unions to serve their local communities and he hopes to be able to help them with those efforts in Nashville.

During the event, Hill also fielded questions from some of the constituents in attendance, including the perennial questions of why he decided to get into politics and if he is considering running for another office.

“The Lord has really opened up this door for me to serve,” Hill said, adding he has not really considered or planned to run for other offices. “I’m wide open to any possibility, but I love what I’m doing now.”
