With fall break at an end, Elizabethton City Schools will hit the ground running in the coming days.
Board of Education officials will have their monthly meeting Tuesday, Oct. 24, at 6:30 p.m. with a relatively cut-and-dry agenda.
Improvements highlight the night with board members looking at approving an agenda item to have Tysinger, Hampton & Partners complete professional work for entrance renovations to South Pine Street at Harold McCormick Elementary School for $9,000. According to documents provided by the school board, TH&P is already in the process of completing data collection services in the amount of $8,8000.
Professional services provided by TH&P would include engineering services, design, permitting, bidding and construction services to assist with entrance capabilities at the school.
Continuing the trend of improvements, the BOE will look at approving a contract between the system and Trane to provide HVAC design services at Elizabethton High School.
The proposal provided by Trane indicates the business would look at adding a buffer tank and rework piping to give a “cool down” lopp to help with heat in the piping system. Trane’s proposal also includes replacing two existing natural gas-fired boilers, two gym air handles and one auxiliary gym air handler.
Other items to be voted on at the meeting include the potential creation of a two part-time assistant to the teacher positions using Title I allocations with a focus on math and literacy. One teacher position would be at Harold McCormick while the other would be at East Side Elementary.
Along with a bevy of board policies, the BOE will also take time Tuesday to recognize the Elizabethton High School Service Learning Class for their work in raising funds and items for the Elizabethton/Carter County Animal Shelter. On the gridiron side of things, the T.A. Dugger Junior High Cyclones will also receive a tip-of-the-cap during the meeting for going undefeated during the 2017 regular season.
