Crusin’ on the Creek featured a car show, a model car competition, a swap meet, and concessions for sale.

Attendance for the event was good, and the students were able to raise funds to help support their trips to various competitions in the CTE programs. While the school system provides funding for the competitions, there are often costs associated with the trips that aren’t covered through school funding.

“Collectively the four CTE student organizations that participated made well over $1,000,” said Dr. Melissa Loveless, the business technology teacher and CTE principal at UHS.

Each year the CTE programs each hold fundraisers to help raise money for students to attend their competitions. This year, Loveless said, the teachers of the CTE classes decided to join forces for a unique fundraiser to support all the programs.

With the successful run on Saturday, the school is already looking forward to hosting the event again next year.

“We hope next year will be even bigger and better,” said Scotty Johnson, who teaches the collision repair program at Unaka High.

The car show featured 48 vehicles divided into categories for cars, trucks, motorcycles, race cars, and rat rods with prizes awarded for each division. The model car competition featured 13 entries in different categories.

First place winners in each division received a special plaque while second and third place winners received a framed certificate. The “Best of Show” trophy was crafted especially for the event by students in the Collision Repair program at Unaka High School.

“The 1st place plaques were paid for and sponsored by Tire Finders on Highway 91, so we offer a special thanks to their support of the Car Show,” Loveless said.
