The T.A. Dugger had plenty to celebrate Tuesday night inside Citizens Bank Stadium.
The Jr. Cyclones recognized their 8th-graders before topping Vance, 44-14, to finish out the season undefeated in league play and 7-1 overall.
In the first quarter, TAD got busy with Jr. Cyclones QB Dalton Mitchell breaking loose for a 39-yard scramble before teammate Bryson Rollins scored on a 2-yard run. Mitchell connected with Jr. Cyclones Cade Russell on the 2-point conversion, and TAD led 8-0 early in the first quarter.
On Vance’s following drive, TAD’s Jake Roberts picked off a pass, setting Rollins up to score on a 61-yard TD pass from Mitchell to give the Jr. Cyclones a 14-0 lead.
Vance would manage a TD before TAD’s Roberts pulled in a TD pass from Mitchell for the final score of the first. TAD led 24-6 heading into the second.
Roberts made his second pick of the game setting up Rollins to score again on a 25-yard run. At the half, the Jr. Cyclone held a sizeable 30-6 lead.
Vance managed one more touchdown in the third period before the Jr. Cyclone rattled back-to-back scores. Rollins ran in a 7-yard TD before teammate Clayton Phelan scored on a 9-yard run. Phelan’s touchdown was the result of an interception by TAD’s Dante Earnest.
