“He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom.” Isaiah 40:11
Pauline McKinney Shell, 88, of Roan Mountain, passed away Thursday, September 14, 2017, at the Waters of Roan Highlands. She was a native of Carter County and the only daughter of Fletcher and Sallie McKinney.
Pauline was a member of Morgan Branch Freewill Baptist Church. Her primary job was a wife and mother and she had also worked at Banner Elk Glove plant. She enjoyed cooking — she was a wonderful cook — flowers and gardening, but her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband, Conley Shell, who went to see her daily at the nursing home and with whom she had celebrated her 70th wedding anniversary in May; her daughter, Linda Perkins and husband Jim, of Roan Mountain; her son, Larry Shell and wife Becky, of Roan Mountain; six grandchildren, Carol Burns, Cindy O’Keeffe, Robert Perkins, Eric Shell, Cristi Marshall and Mark Shell; and 15 great-grandchildren.
A service to honor and celebrate the life of Pauline McKinney Shell will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 16, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, with Rev. Gary Perkins, Rev. Jim Perkins and Rev. Bob Campbell officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Morgan Branch Freewill Baptist Church and Charlotte Smith. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 1 until 2 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service, or at the residence at other times. The graveside service will follow in the Richardson Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Eric Shell, Mark Shell, Robert Perkins, Wilson Burns, Jordan Isaacs and Jacob Isaacs. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Cooke, Dexter Perkins, Brian Blair, Michael Blair, Brad Perkins, Samuel Perkins and Levin Sudderth. We wish to express a special thank you to Dr. Vivian Clark and the caring, competent and compassionate employees at the Waters of Roan Highlands. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2020 Meadowview Parkway, Suite 100, Kingsport, TN 37660.
