Retha Mae Shankle, 80, originally from Hampton, Tenn., a long-time resident of Etowah, Tenn., departed this world Sunday, September 10, 2017, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Retha was loved by everyone that knew her, always doing for others. Making quilts and growing flowers were two of her favorite pastimes. However, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her passion. There could be no deeper love.
Retha was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Jack Shankle (1987); her beloved son, Timothy Gregory Shankle (2003); and two sons-in-law, Dewight Martin and Ricky Taylor.
She left behind to cherish her memory six children and their families, Denise (Zebbie) and David Discepoli, Grace Martin, Bobby and Yvonne Shankle, Kem Taylor, Paul Shankle, and Deidre and Patrick Ensley, who generously cared for her; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
There will be a celebration of life Wednesday, September 13, at 6 p.m. in the chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Miracle Lake, 182 County Road 498, Etowah, TN 37331.
Bordwine Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. If you are unable to attend you may sign the guest registry at www.bordwinefuneralhome.com.
