Lady Cyclones storm past Johnson County

After falling to Science Hill Monday and losing to Sullivan East in a close match Thursday, the Lady Cyclones volleyball team was hungry to get back in the win column.
And they did just that Tuesday evening as they topped Johnson County 3-0 (25-12, 25-9, 25-10) at John Treadway Gym.
The win moves the Lady Cyclones to 3-2 in the conference, and EHS head coach Leslee Bradley is feeling good about the team’s position at this point in the season.
“We are sitting in a good spot,” said Bradley after Tuesday’s win. “We are anxious to see how things play out. We have one more match with Chuckey-Doak, and then we start the second round. We are ready to see if we can do a little better the second time through.”
The Lady Cyclones were led by senior Emilee Nanney Tuesday as she racked up seven kills.
“I thought Emilee was on fire,” said Bradley. “Every ball that came at her, she was hitting that sideline. And that is a hard ball to cover.”
Nanney’s fellow senior Cassidee Ray finished the night with six kills while picking up three blocks. Sophomore Hannah Boster had two blocks on the night.
Defensively, EHS junior Sydney Goodsell and senior Mary Beth Biggs led with 14 digs a piece.
The Lady Cyclones will be back in action tonight as they travel to Sullivan North for some nonconference action.
