Demolition crews with D.H. Griffin Companies, based out of Bristol, Va., are currently on site at T.A. Dugger Junior High to begin the deconstruction of home grandstands located at Brown-Childress Stadium.
The Elizabethton City Schools Board of Education voted during a recent meeting to OK the contract from the company for a cost of $88,800. D.H. Griffin Companies was one of two companies to submit bids for the process.
Director of Schools Dr. Corey Gardenhour recently told BOE members that the construction is expected to wrap up on August 9 before students arrive on campus.
The director noted the demolition is considered “phase one” of potential expansion at the middle school. ECS is aiming to extend the facility out to where the home grandstands are to house classrooms to offer more STEM opportunities for students. The expansion also includes additional restrooms and the ability to make the facility fully ADA accessible.
Dr. Gardenhour thanked the efforts of all that were involved with the project, including the Elizabethton City Council, which toured the facility months ago during a systemwide tour of the system during budget season.
