Expect Roan Mountain Community Park to gather some steam in the coming months.
With a farmers’ market already on the agenda at the park, citizens will be able to reap the rewards of a brand new covered stage that now available for use.
“This is the first year we’ll be using the stage,” John Bland, representative with the park, said. “There was some serious funding done by the community to have a covered stage area at the park. After reaching our goal, we were able to have a stage ready to go for different activities.”
With the stage comparable to the one at Covered Bridge Park, Bland added that different musical performances are on the horizon.
“I actually had the chance to do a couple of little concerts,” Bland said. “I’ve been playing since I was 14 years old and I really enjoyed it. We had others on stage, some beginning players, and it was a great time. There’s a great feel for mountain music, and it’s a delight to be part of it.”
Individuals are invited to participate in the Roan Mountain Farmers’ Market, which takes place 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the park.
“A lot of the different vegetables are now starting to come in,” Bland said. “We’re expecting the farmers’ market to start to pick up in the coming weeks. There are a lot of different vendors and great products to choose from.”
An acoustic musical set and open mic session are pegged for the same day at the stage from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Along with the activities Saturday, citizens can utilize the stage to learn tai chi on Mondays, beginning at 5 p.m. Bland added that music would also be on tap on Tuesday, from 6 to 8 p.m., and Friday will feature some yoga instructions at 10 a.m.
While donations are encouraged for activities on stage, Bland added the events are free to the public.
“A $5 donation is encouraged, and that money will go directly back into the park for other future events,” he said. “It’s exciting to see the different performances and various activities available at the park. The park is coming alive, and we invite people to come on out and enjoy the fun.”
Concerts are also on the agenda moving forward, Bland said. Once schedules are completed, the various shows will be made available to the public.
