What to make of the Trump presidency?

Like many Americans I was shocked when Donald Trump became the 45th President of the United States. Almost every evening that I watch the news I will comment to my wife, “I cannot believe that he is the president.” But that does not change the fact that he is the leader of the free world! I have always been fascinated by politics: the speeches, the filibusters, and the scandals. It never ceases to amaze me how forgiving the American public is towards the people they elect. What seems like the end of an era for a candidate today may blossom into political capital tomorrow.
But I think far more captivating and entertaining are the politics that are played through the news media. I enjoy watching ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, and the “Clinton News Network” otherwise known as CNN. I read the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and the New York Times on a regular basis. Since election night there is one issue that has united all of these media outlets and that is the disdain and absolute hatred of anything and anyone that has to do with the Trump administration. On election night there was media coverage speculating how the Trump University lawsuit could end up in a Trump deposition and possible impeachment. Since the historic political upset on election night the establishment (both Democrats and Republicans) have fought to undermine and subversively defeat the Trump presidency. The fact is that no one expected Trump to win. I do not believe that Trump even thought he was going to win. Everyone thought Hillary was going to win. When I traveled to Washington, DC for the inauguration I was amazed at the Hillary Clinton memorabilia (T-shirts, pencils, pens, banners, flags, and other political trinkets) all touting a Clinton victory as she became the 45th President of the United States. Of course, all of this merchandise was on the clearance table, but it illustrates just how much the election results sent shockwaves to nearly everyone.
Here we are six months after the election, and almost every news network is speculating Trump’s impeachment because of his ties to Russia, and his alleged obstruction of justice in dealing with the firing and circumstances surrounding James Comey, and the ongoing FBI investigations.
I believe that the biggest problem facing this administration is not an obstruction of justice, and is nothing worthy of impeachment, but the difference in running a country and running a business. Donald Trump is hopefully beginning to understand that running a country is a far cry from running a business. In order to succeed you have to work with people.
For the establishment that is highly upset at this presidency, I am glad that they are upset. Washington insiders have been leading far too long, and we have seen little results.
My criticism of Trump is simple — expunge the Twitter app from your phone!!! I do not think the last 130 days have been the worst in American presidential history, and anyone who would argue this point does not understand presidential history very well. That does not mean that I have liked everything that has occurred, but the American public is in a quandary whether they realize it or not. We simply cannot trust the media to report the news objectively. The news is biased on every front, and we cannot always take their reporting as fact.
As a matter of fact, the news has as much fiction as a Walt Disney animated film.
For the sake of the American public our elected officials both inside and outside the oval office need to work together for the common good. Everything does not need to be politicized, and when there is dead weight in the halls of Congress we simply need to send them packing.
