Nicotine Anonymous, a 12-Step Recovery Program of Mutual Support for those who want to stop smoking or live free of nicotine in any form, will meet at 7 p.m. at the Carter County Drug Prevention Coalition Youth Opportunity Center, 546 East Elk Ave., Elizabethton. There are no dues or fees. You only need to bring a desire to stop using nicotine. Contact Thad at 423-306-3866 for more information.
TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) will meet at First Baptist Church, 212 East F St., Elizabethton. Weigh-in begins at 5:30-6:30 p.m. with the meeting starting at 6:45 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend these meetings. Dr. Ramsey McGowen, retired professor from East Tennessee State University, will be guest speaker for the Carter County Democratic Women’s meeting at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held at Beef ‘O’ Brady’s in Elizabethton. McGowen will speak on the topic of gerrymandering. She spoke on the topic earlier this year at the Women’s March in Washington, D.C. Dr. McGowen currently serves as the Director of Medical Student Education in Psychiatry. Important activities of the local club and the Democratic Party will be discussed. Both men and women are invited to attend.

The Elizabethton Senior Center, 428 East G St., will have a Memorial Day Program beginning at 10 a.m., honoring veterans of all wars and remembering those that gave all for our country. There will be a POW/MIA Empty Chair and Flag Folding Ceremony and special recognition of veterans that are present and their branch of service. Everyone is welcome to attend. The Patton-Simmons Cemetery Decoration Day Service will be held at 11 a.m. The cemetery is located on Toll Branch Road. For more information, call 423-367-2930.
The Whitehead Cemetery on Cable Hollow Road, Butler, will have its Annual Memorial Service at the Elk River Baptist Church Fellowship Hall at 1 p.m. Bring a covered dish to share and come for fellowship. An offering will be received for upkeep of the cemetery. For more information, call 423-768-3387.
Watauga Valley Fife and Drums from 10 a.m. until noon. The Fife & Drum Corps performs at historical events, dedications and parades. This group is open to anyone ages 13 & up. Musical experience is welcome but not necessary; just come with a willingness to learn. Meet our volunteer coordinator John Large at the Sycamore Shoals Visitors Center. Lessons are free of charge, just call and let us know you’re coming!

Old Time Music Jam – Led by Art Lang from 1:30-4 p.m. at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park. Enjoy the rich musical traditions of our region each month. Old time musicians of all levels are welcome. Don’t play an instrument? Come on over, kick back, and enjoy the tunes!

English Country Dancing with Bob Thompson from 1-5 p.m. Guest dance instructor Bob Thompson will lead the group in English country dancing focusing on 4 primary dance routines from the period.
