Cloudland seniors to graduate Friday night

As the school season winds down to its final week for seniors, Cloudland High School Principal Lisa Benfield admitted that this week had been a little rough.
Sure, the work of administrative duties is a bit rough, but the principal said it was more to do with the fact that the senior class will be walking across the stage to receive their diplomas on Friday, May 19, at 7 p.m. inside Sonny Smith Gymnasium at the school.
“We were working on some housekeeping items … cleaning out lockers, that sort of thing, and I talked them and just started to get teary-eyed,” Benfield said with a laugh. “This group of students is just a great group of people, overall. You couldn’t ask for a better group of seniors. They’re morally-strong, respectful and excel in and out of the classroom.”
Benfield added she’s been able to watch this group grow up along her son, Preston, who is among the graduation class.
“You can ask any one of the teachers; they’ll be the first to tell you we’ll miss this group,” she said. “They’ve left such a strong presence in the school and the community.”
Benfield also announced the 2017 valedictorians Tuesday, which includes, Hayden Davis, Joseph Trivette, Alex Trivette, Timothy Guinn, Jonah Roberts, Tanner Dyer, Noah and Brinkley Mull.
Attendees are encouraged to arrive early for parking. Photos from Friday’s graduation, along with other high school graduations across Carter County and Johnson County, we’ll be featured in the Elizabethton Star’s annual graduation tab print edition. The annual supplement will be available to the public on May 28.
