Consider it a spring surprise of sorts.
The staff at Silvers Angels in Elizabethton have stayed extra business over the past few days with a food donation drive. Friday capped off the event as the home care office gave their multitude of items to Appalachian Resource Ministries (ARM) Friday morning.
Nikki Jones, life coach at Silver Angels, described the drive as a way for staff to give back to give back to the community. And don’t expect the group to stop anytime soon.
“Every quarter we’ll be doing a donation from Silver Angels,” Jones said. “It’ll be for food, and we also do “Pennies for Paws.” We’ll be donating those funds to our (animal) shelter. We want to do this to give back to the community. We want to serve our community in any capacity.”
ARM interim director Robbie Fritts made his way to the facility for the pick-up thanked the efforts of groups like Silver Angels.
“Having organizations like Silver Angels is great,” Fritts said. “We’re blessed to have the organizations that will donate the food to use because it allows us to provide a box that will be more fulfilling to families. It makes it possible to give a little bit more in our boxes.”
Located on West C Street in Elizabethton, ARM identifies and aims to secure basic human, financial and material resources required to assist individuals in Carter County. Along with providing what it available, ARM also reached out to other organizations to help with issues.
Fritts added the facility is still accepting donations and that volunteer opportunities are also available.
“We’re always looking for volunteers,” Fritts added. “We need help checking in the clients once they get to our office, sort through donations, make food boxes … we’re always looking for people who want to give back.”
