BLUFF CITY—With one of the hottest days of the year showing it’s face on Monday, it was only fitting that Sullivan East Patriot pitcher Aaron Frye was cooking on the mound against the visiting Elizabethton Cyclones.
Behind a four-hit and nine-strikeout performance from Frye, the Patriots hung a 3-0 loss on Elizabethton in a key Three Rivers Conference showdown. Frye walked only two Cyclone batters.
The Patriots scored two runs in the bottom of the third and a solo run in the bottom of the fourth to back the strong pitching of Frye.
Ethan Eggleston, Evan Carter, Matthew Dailey, and Jesse Carr accounted for the hits registered by the Cyclones on the afternoon. Eggleston’s hit went for a double.
Brodie Adams suffered the loss from the hill for Elizabethton as Adams went four and two-thirds of an inning giving up six hits and all three of the Patriot runs.
Adams recorded three strikeouts and two walks.
Dailey came on and threw one and one-third of an inning in relief for the Cyclones. The sophomore had two strikeouts and one walk without giving up a run.
Alex McCracken had a perfect 2-for-2 plate performance while Elias Arnold went 2-for-3 on the afternoon to lead the Patriots in batting.
Walker Hudlow and Matt Hopson accounted for the other two hits for Sullivan East. Arnold and Hudlow had one RBI each for the Patriots.
