Bill Jenkins

Mr. Bill Jenkins, 96, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away Thursday, March 9, 2017, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home. A native of Elizabethton, Tenn., he was the son of the late Roscoe and Eliza Forbes Jenkins.
Mr. Jenkins retired in 1982 after more than 20 years from the Elizabethton Star newspaper. He loved sports and writing sports columns for the Elizabethton Star. He was a member of Valley Forge Freewill Baptist Church. Mr. Jenkins was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He fought in every major campaign in the European Theatre and was a Purple Heart recipient.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Flora Hall Jenkins, and his twin brother, Henry Jenkins.
Those left to cherish his memory include a son, Billy Jenkins, Elizabethton; a daughter, Nancy Ann Chandler and husband Kenneth, Jacksonville, Fla.; a grandson, Chance Chandler, Jacksonville, Fla.; an aunt, Gladys Snyder, Jonesborough, Tenn.; a nephew, Hank Jenkins and wife Donna, Elizabethton; a niece, Elaine Stout, Johnson City, Tenn.; and great-nephews, Scott Stout, Greenville, S.C., Brian Stout, Johnson City, Tenn., Andy Jenkins, Elk Mills, Randall Jenkins and wife Kim, Daniel Jenkins and Kyle Jenkins, all of Elizabethton. Other nieces and nephews and several members of his wife’s family also survive.
A service to honor the life of Mr. Bill Jenkins will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, March 13, at Valley Forge Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, prior to the service. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 14, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Tony Greene, Larry McKinney, Kyle Jenkins, Daniel Jenkins, Randall Jenkins and Andy Jenkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Abel, Terry Abel, Harvey Norris, Brian Stout and Scott Stout. Everyone will meet at Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
