Police are investigating a case of vandalism at Keenburg Elementary School.
On Monday when school staff arrived for the start of the school day, employees discovered someone had broken the door glass out of the gymnasium door and had broken a security camera on the outside of the school.
“After reviewing video, it was observed that a total of five people had arrived at the school at around 5:30 a.m. in a silver Chevrolet four-door Cavalier with a dark colored hood,” Carter County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Johnny Roberts said.
The video shows two men, two women and a male appearing to be in his late teens involved in the incident, Roberts said.
“A male with a dark ball jersey bearing the number 15 took his fist and busted the door glass. Another male wearing a gray hoodie accompanied him,” Roberts said. “Later the two males were met in front of the door with two females, one being slender and having long blond hair and the other appeared to have brown hair that was up in a bun. The young male appeared to be in his late teens and had light colored hair.”
“All five stood at the door for a few minutes before leaving in the silver Cavalier. The offenders stayed at the school for approximately 30 minutes.”
Roberts said he reviewed the video footage with Keenburg Elementary’s Principal Jason Hartley and Hartley recognized the vehicle shown in the video. Hartley told the officer one of the youth league coaches from another school drove the Cavalier to a game at the school on Saturday, Feb. 25.
