It would be hard to miss the smile of Mrs. Elizabeth Rose Swatzell.
Joined by friends and family members spanning multiple generations, Swatzell celebrated her 104th birthday on Tuesday, Jan. 18, at her residence located in the Milligan community.
Throughout the day, family and friends took time out to visit Swatzell as refreshments were offered.
“It feels good … it brings tears,” Swatzell said with a grin about the amount of visitors she received during the day.
Along with the festivities, John Abe Teague, district director for U.S. Rep. Phil Roe’s office, stopped by the Swatzell residence and provided a token of gratitude with a certificate.
“It was an honor and pleasure to visit Mrs. Swatzell and represent Mr. Roe’s office,” Teague said. “She was very talkative and humorous. It was a pleasure to meet with a woman that has given so much back to the community. The family was so nice and welcoming. It was great seeing all of the family and friends come together to spend time with Mrs. Swatzell.”
It wasn’t Swatzell’s first encounter with Roe’s office, either. For her 100th birthday, the special certificate was also given.
“The family has always been so welcoming and we appreciate them,” Teague added.
Swatzell has been a regular church member of Elizabethton Church of Christ, located on East C Street, and was joined by friends from the church during the day.
In her room, Swatzell had multiple cards and photos brought by friends and family to share their love and showcase special moments together.
