Led by three double-digit scorers, the Happy Valley Lady Warriors moved to 2-0 in the Three Rivers Conference after topping Johnson County 67-38 inside Bayless Gymnasium Monday night.
“I am happy with us getting the 2-0,” said Happy Valley head coach Larry Abel Jr. “That is our goal to be atop the Three Rivers Conference.”
It was another big night for Happy Valley senior Kaitlyn Roberts, who racked up 17 points for the Lady Warriors, while her teammate, freshman Shalyn Whitson, recorded 15 points. Lady Warriors senior Emily Whitaker rounded things out with ten points and eight rebounds.
The first quarter ended with Happy Valley holding a 22-8 lead over JC. In the opening period, Roberts paced the Lady Warriors with five points that came from a three and a bucket, while Whitson chipped in four points. Whitaker, Adrienne Henegar, and Makayla Frazier all worked the net for three each in the first.
By halftime, the Lady Warriors had dominated their way out to a 45-18 after outscoring Johnson County 23-11 in the second quarter. Roberts posted six points in the second frame, while Fraizer and Bailey Ball both contributed four points to the cause.
The Lady Warriors lost some steam in the the second half while only outscoring JC 10-8 in the third and 12-11 in the fourth.
“Good teams have to have a good focus,” Abel said. “You have to put teams away and bury the hatchet deep.”
Henegar finished the night with eight points, while Frazier clocked out with seven. Ball had four, and Depriest finished with three. Both Tianna Long and Baley McGee had two each.
The Lady Warriors won’t be back on the court until after Christmas when they play in a holiday tournament in Sevierville.
