Gas pumps are looking to be in the giving mood for motorists in the region the holiday season.
According to a report issued by GasBuddy, the organization projects the national average gas price this Thanksgiving will be the third lowest in over a decade at $2.11 per gallon. Prices have only been lower for Thanksgiving in 2015 ($2.05) and 2008 ($1.81).
“As motorists pack their bags and prepare to head out for Thanksgiving, gas prices are falling across much of the country,” said Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy. “With a record amount of travelers, motorists will be facing congestion not only on highways but gas stations. But at least low gas prices have lingered for much of this year. Keep an eye on word from OPEC over the holiday weekend — there could be some surprises at a major meeting to decide the fate of an oil production cut.”
Since 2000, GasBuddy has utilized crowdsourced information, along with other data and technology to service their community of over 60 million users. They use the crowdsourcing to document gas prices at over 140,000 stations along with keeping track on gas price trends across the world.

Carter County was left out of the $2.00 crosshairs as of Tuesday.
According to the organization’s website, gas prices at five gas stations in Elizabethton were locked in at $1.85. Hampton’s two stations, Marathon and Shell, had prices at $1.88 and $1.91, respectively. In Roan Mountain, the Valero and BP both were locked in at $1.87 according to the website.
“As motorists pack their bags and prepare to head out for Thanksgiving, gas prices are falling across much of the country,” DeHaan said.
While Thanksgiving officially kicks off the holiday travel season, DeHaan added that gas prices could look at continually staying low heading into 2017.
“But no matter what eventually takes place with the OPEC meeting, motorists are virtually guaranteed another year of gas prices that will remain well under all-time record highs as oil prices will likely remain confined between $40 and $60 for much of the next year,” he said.
