Since its inception in 2013, Recover Appalachia has looked at assisting individuals with drug and substance abuse throughout Northeast Tennessee.
The nonprofit organization is looking to continue its mark in Elizabethton and will soon be opening “The Appalachian Attic” — a thrift store where funds gathered will go towards operations of Recover Appalachia located on 2157 West Elk Ave.
While based in Unicoi County, Recover Appalachia founder Rossanna Aldrich added the support from Carter County has been overwhelming since the organization’s move to assist the region.
“Carter County has always been on my list,” Aldrich said. “We’ve had clients come from the county and the support has always been incredible. We’re hoping to move our thrift store into Elizabethton to help get the word out.”
Recover Appalachia is an interdenominational, faith-based, alcohol and drug treatment facility that offers DUI school, ignition interlock installation, juvenile counseling and drug testing. Along with the variety of options, the facility also serves as a referral source for individuals requiring inpatient rehab or crisis stabilization.
The new thrift store will offer a variety of new and used clothing and vintage knick knacks, according to Aldrich. The founder added that the business will also be able to sell furniture due to additional space compared to their previous store’s location in Erwin.
Individuals looking to donate items to be sold at the store can contact the main office at (423) 330-6105 or by contacting Lucy Hull at (423) 220-0304.
The Appalachian Attic is nearing their opening date. Hull, who is helping spearhead the operation in Elizabethton, was on site at the building and said that the store is tentatively looking at opening on Friday.
