James “Phil” Phillip Winters

Phil Winters, 51, of Roan Mountain, passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2016. He was the son of the late Harold Winters and Mary Brewer Peek and was born in Avery County, N.C. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Herman Peek.
Phil enjoyed playing his guitar and was of the Baptist faith. He was a veteran of the Army National Guard.
Those left to cherish his memory include a brother, Bill Peek and wife Mary of Hampton; a sister, Jill Dugger and husband Adam of Roan Mountain; his soulmate of nine years, Mollie Garland of Elizabethton; four nephews, Logan Peek, Trevor Eller, Collin Eller and Simon Eller; and one niece, Charleigh Dugger.
The family will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. Friday, October 28, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, or at the residence of his sister, Jill Dugger, at other times. The graveside service will follow the visitation at the Winters Cemetery at Morgan Branch Church in Roan Mountain with Pastor John Henry McCoury officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Howard Puckett, Johnny Huffman, Harvey Guess, Logan Peek, Adam Dugger, Raymond Dugger, Eddie Hughes and Eugene “Frosty” Bowers. Everyone is asked to meet at the funeral home no later than 1:45 p.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family would like to extend a thank you to Tom Winters, the VFW and a special thank you to Howard Puckett. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to Tetrick Funeral Home, 211 North Riverside Drive, Elizabethton, TN 37643 to help the family with final expenses.
