Thursday, Sept. 22
The Capt. Lynn H. Folsom Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2166 will hold its monthly business meeting at 7 p.m. at the Post. Post Commander Duane Gilbert requests that all members of the Post attend the meeting.
Friday, Sept. 23
The Elizabethton Senior Dance Club will hold a dance at the Elizabethton Elks Lodge, No. 1847, 1000 N. Sycamore St., from 7 to 10 p.m. The Rambling Rose Band will provide music. Those attending the dances are asked to bring finger foods to share. There is a $6 door charge. The club holds dances the second and fourth Friday nights of each month. All seniors are welcome.
Saturday, Sept. 24
Fairview United Methodist Church will hold a Lord’s Acre Sale from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Come and bring a friend for a great country breakfast, lunch and day of fun. There will be Silent Auction items, homemade apple butter, jams, jellies and canned goods along with handmade crafts, quilts, needlework, fall decorations, produce, homemade baked goods and so much more. The church is located at 878 Highway 81N, about five miles from downtown Jonesborough.
Boones Creek High School Class of 1970 is having a reunion picnic beginning at 4 p.m. at Bays Mountain Park at Eastman Shelter No. 8. A taco bar will be available for a cost of $10 per person payable at the event. Bays Mountain Park is located at 853 Bays Mountain Park Road in Kingsport. Local Author Frances VanLandingham will hold a special book signing for her newest published work Voices of Elk River at the Elizabethton/Carter County Public Library on Saturday, Sept. 24, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Voices of Elk River is a compilation of poetry and short stories from a number of authors, including VanLandingham, all about the Elk River.
Monday, Sept. 26
TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) will meet at First Baptist Church, 212 East F St., Elizabethton. Weigh-in begins at 5:30-6:30 p.m. with the meeting starting at 6:45 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend these meetings. Monday, Oct. 17
Alzheimers Tennessee Caregiver Support Group will meet at noon at Sycamore Springs Senior Living Center at 1504 W. Elk Ave. for caregivers of friends or relatives suffering from Alzheimers or another form of dementia. Attending the support group can help people to feel less isolated and to make connections with others facing similar challenges.
