Two Carter County men face criminal charges after police say they located a marijuana operation at a home in Roan Mountain.
Officers of the Carter County Sheriff’s Office arrested Ricky Julian, 51, of 146 Floyd Moody Road, Roan Mountain, on Wednesday and charged him with manufacturing a controlled substance and maintaining a dwelling where a controlled substance is manufactured. Officers also arrested Matthew Shingleton, 18, of 1545 Highway 321, Hampton, and charged him with manufacturing a controlled substance.
According to a statement from Carter County Sheriff Dexter Lunceford, officers of the Carter County Sheriff’s Office’s Drug Unit executed a search warrant on Julian’s home around 10:40 p.m. on Wednesday night.
“While searching the residence there were four trash bags that contained marijuana laying on the floor of the kitchen and living room,” CCSO Investigator Christopher Reichenbach said in a court affidavit. “While searching the rest of the residence there was drug paraphernalia and three mason jars containing marijuana found throughout the inside of the residence.
“Behind the residence was a shed that contained an elaborate marijuana grow system, to include UV lights with attached timers, air flow fans, an A/C unit, transformers, and fertilizer,” Reichenbach added. “Behind the shed located on the same property one marijuana plant and 11 marijuana stalks were found planted in the ground.”
Officers transported both Julian and Shingleton to the Carter County Detention Center where they were booked in but were later released after posting bond.
Julian is scheduled to appear in Carter County General Sessions Court on Oct. 3 for arraignment and Shingleton is set for arraignment in General Sessions Court on Oct. 18.
