Tweetsie Trail events scheduled for Saturday

The Elizabethton Parks and Recreation Department and the City of Elizabethton will be conducting the Tweetsie Trail Treasure Trip and Celebration on Saturday, Sept. 3, in Elizabethton. Saturday’s event will feature a variety of activities along the trail.
The schedule for the Tweetsie Trail includes:
Tweetsie Trail Treasure Trip: The treasure trip is free with no registration. The event will be open to all walkers and casual bike riders who wish to enjoy the beautiful Tweetsie Trail. Participants will be encouraged to walk or ride their bike along the entire trail but in particular the “Golden Trail” section. The Golden Trail section will host special challenges for participants who wish to take part in the Tweetise Trail Treasure Trip between the hours of 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Golden Trail section of this event will run from Dixon Park located directly across from Sycamore Shoals State Park to downtown Elizabethton. Participants along this section of the trail will come across businesses giving away promotional items, ice cream, inflatables and prizes as well as five historic Tweetsie Trail Depots. Each Depot will represent a unique treasure found in Elizabethton and Carter County; one that promotes the quality of life and history found within our beautiful community. Participants will be challenged to complete a simple task associated with the treasure found at the Depot. They will also qualify for a gift associated with this treasure stop. If they complete the task the participant will be given a stamp on their passport, which will be given when beginning the Trip; and will continue on to the next Tweetsie Trail Depot. Those participants that obtain five stamps on their passport will automatically qualify for a cash and prize drawing valued at $500.00. Those participants that receive all five passport passes will be asked to attend the Tweetsie Trail Family Celebration that will be held later that evening at the Covered Bridge Park. Each participant that attends the event with their stamped passport in hand will be given a boarding pass to see if they win the Tweetsie Trail Treasure Trip grand prize.
Tweetsie Trail Family Celebration: The Tweetsie Trail Family Celebration will take place at the Covered Bridge Park in downtown Elizabethton from 5 PM until 9 PM. The event will feature live music by three bands including the Railroad Angels, Retroville and the Fugitives. In addition to live music the event will feature inflatables and some great food for those in attendance. Winners of the Tweetsie Trail Treasure Trip and grand prize winner will be announced between 7:30 and 8 p.m. The grand prize winner must be in attendance. In the event the grand prize winner is drawn and is not in attendance, tickets will be drawn until a winner in attendance is selected.
The Golden Depots for the contest are: Sycamore Shoals State Park, Elizabethton Parks and Recreation, Elizabethton City School System, Chamber of Commerce and Tourism and Downtown Business Association.
Event Prizes: A listing of all event prizes for the Tweetsie Trail Treasure Trip will be announced on the Tweetsie Trail Treasure Trip Facebook page and at www. elizabethton.org website under Parks and Recreation tab at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 1.
