Norris Wayne Shell, 79, of Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, August 16, 2016, after a brief illness.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late George and Edith Herman Shell.
Norris was a graduate of Elizabethton High School. He served in the United States Marines. He was a retired truck driver. Prior to that he worked at Free Service Tire Store and Ball Brothers.
Norris was a member and Deacon of Moores Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. He sang in the Solomon Quartet for 12 years.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Sharon Pierce Shell; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Mike McGovern, Elizabethton; a son and daughter-in-law, Brandon and Kristy Shell, Elizabethton; two grandchildren, Maci and Kolby Shell; and one sister, Carol Brookshire, Elizabethton.
A Service to Celebrate the Life of Norris Shell will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, August 19, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Greg Largent and the Rev. Clarence Phillips officiating. Music will be provided by Ronnie Blevins, Holly Church and Linda Bowers. The graveside service and interment will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 20, in the Blevins Cemetery. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 9:50 a.m. Saturday, will be Brandon Shell, Mike McGovern, Chuck Pierce, Richard Pierce, Phillip Nave, Leonard Bowers, Ronnie Blevins and Ronnie Brookshire. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Coleman, Keith Smith, Michael Smith and Ron Carrier. Military Honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at his residence.
