Harold Dean Matherly

Harold Dean Matherly, 67, of Elizabethton, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2016, at his residence after an extended illness.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late George Dewey and Ann Fenner Matherly.
Harold was a 1969 graduate of Elizabethton High School. He was self-employed, having operated the H & S T’S Screen Printing Company for 30 years. He was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church but attended Zion Baptist Church and Little Mountain Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Nancy Proffitt Matherly; a step-daughter, Christy Fair, Elizabethton; his sisters, Nancy Brown, Debbie Waycaster and husband Randy, all of Elizabethton, and Patsy Landmier and husband Guy of North Carolina; his brother, Jimmy Matherly and wife Karen, Hampton; several nieces and nephews; his special families, The Proffitt’s, The Grindstaff Family, The Fenner Family and The Matherly Family; his special friend, Larry Brown; and his brother-in-law, Jerry Proffitt.
A memorial service for Harold Dean Matherly will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 2, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Dr. Alan King officiating. Music will be provided by Harold Presnell. Honorary pallbearers will be Atty. David Crockett, Dr. Joseph Lee, Larry Dean Scalf, Phil Dean White, Louie Heaton, Charlie Isakson, Ernest Elliott, Bill, David and Richard Fenner and Danny Ward. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at his residence. As per his request, he wanted to be cremated. Interment will be at a later date in the Butler Memorial Cemetery. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of Amedisys Hospice for all the special care and support given to Harold and the family during his illness.
