Nestled near the outskirts of Hampton, Doe River Gorge continues to pick up steam with attendees looking to beat the summer heat.
DRG, a Christian camp located in Carter County, provides the Day Quest Adventure, a program that was green lit nearly 20 years ago and 2016 has proven to be another successful year putting on the event, according to Ken Stoltzfus, DRG director of operations.
“This response we’ve received this year has been great,” Stoltzfus said. “We’ve had a lot of people come out to enjoy what we have to offer.”
Since getting underway in June of this year, DRG has seen hundreds flock to what is offered.
“We try to provide a little bit of everything,” Stoltzfus said. “We have a white sand beach around our lake with different activities, including swimming, lake inflatables and obstacles, and zip line that people can rappel down into the water.”
If the water isn’t someone’s forte, DRG features various activities, including railroad excursions through the mountain, a nine-hole disc golf course, horseback riding, the UNIMOG 4×4, skeet shooting and climbing towers.
“We want to provide people with an adventure,” Stoltzfus said. “It’s an exciting time for families, groups, and organizations to come together and spend time with each other.”
Day Quest continues through the summer until September 10. Preregistration is requested, Stoltzfus said, with an all-day adventure costing $18 per person eight years and older. Children seven years and under receive free admission when accompanied by an adult. The cost for registration covers lake and train activities while lunch is $8 for an adult and $4 for children.
During the months of August and September, DRG is also offering weekend getaways for individuals looking to stay in the lodging available on site.
Weekend lodging runs for $90, Stoltzfus added.
There are extra costs for three activities offered during Day Quest; including $10 for the skeet shooting and UNIMOG 4×4 while horseback riding is $20 per person for one hour.
