Anne Harvey Austin, 90, of Elizabethton, passed away Saturday morning, April 2, 2016, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home following a lengthy illness. Anne was born August 9, 1925 in Welch, W.Va., and was the daughter of the late Robert W. and Selma Burnham Harvey.
Anne had lived in Elizabethton most of her life and was a 1943 graduate of Elizabethton High School. She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Elizabethton. Anne will be remembered for her outgoing personality and her loyalty and generosity to her family and friends.
Anne had worked as an accountant with American Bemberg Corporation and had retired as an accountant with the Happy Valley Credit Union.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James P. “Jim” Austin, on April 30, 1982; her son, James R. “Jimmy” Austin, on July 29, 2005; and her sister, Jean Harvey Crockett, on September 25, 2015. She was also preceded in death by three very dear friends, Margaret Allen, Charlotte Robinson and a sister-in-law, Betty Austin.
Anne is survived by her beloved granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Austin of Charleston, S.C.; a nephew, John R. Crockett III and his wife Lanelle; and a devoted great-nephew, Jay Crockett and his wife Victoria.
A service to honor the life of Anne Harvey Austin will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, April 4, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Raymond Amos officiating. Music will be under the direction of Catherine Edwards Bunton, soloist, and David Arney, organist. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 until 6:45 p.m. Monday. The graveside and committal service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 5, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who are requested to meet at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m., will be John R. “Jay” Crockett IV, Richard Robinson, Dr. George McQueen, Jeff Williams, Greg Bowers, David Wortman, David Pinckard and Barry Solis. Those who wish to make donations in memory of Anne may donate to the First United Methodist Church of Elizabethton Mobile Food Pantry, 325 East E. Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
