A fire that began Tuesday near Sciota Road has now overtaken more than 100 acres of public and private land between Carter and Unicoi Counties, according to James Heaton, Tennessee Forestry Division technician.
He said no structures are currently in danger, but they are working to protect them just in case.
Both U.S. Forest Service and Tennessee Division of Forestry are on scene. One helicopter is overhead pouring water and another is in route.
“Right now, we’re working to establish a containment line around the fire,” said Heaton.
He said the rain in the forecast tonight may help to out the blaze.
