Elizabethton tennis has tough day against Sullivan South

In a match between District 1-A/AA opponents that technically did not count as a conference match, the Elizabethton Cyclone and Lady Cyclone tennis team hope they got the bad out of the way.
It wasn’t a surprise the South boys won, taking a 7-2 decision over Elizabethton. However, it may shock a lot of people that the Elizabethton girls lost 5-4 in a match that was technically wrapped up before singles play finished.
There were a couple of bright spots for the Elizabethton boys as Zeb Moore defeated South’s Nate Barrett 8-4 and the doubles team of Adam Cornett and Daniel Raposo-Sanchez took an 8-3 win over Garrett Bowery and Levi Ringley.
The match of the day was played by Raposo-Sanchez, as the foreign exchange student from Spain who also plays on the Cyclone soccer team lost 9-8 and 10-8 in the tiebreak.
On the girls side, the only singles win of the day came from Furman signee Danielle Vines, who won 8-1 over Kaitlin Barrett.
The South girls swept seeds two through six and clinched things early in what was an early setback for the defending District 1-A/AA Champions.
Fortunately for Elizabethton, they will play it for real in Colonial Heights on April 5 after the EHS spring break.
Elizabethton will be back in action today at the EHS Tennis Center against Unicoi County.
