Scarecrows of all shapes and sizes are appearing on East Elk Avenue in Elizabethton, ready for the Downtown Business Association’s second annual Scarecrow Contest. Clockwise from top left: the “Merle Norman Girls” pose on a festively decorated bike; a plump scarecrow reclines in front of Ritchie’s Furniture and Appliance on E. Elk Ave.; and, just down the street, anyone looking for a good detective? Alexander Insurance’s scarecrow, “Sherlock Alexander,” looks ready to solve a mystery.
No doubt there will be more scarecrows to come, as the contest deadline is fast approaching. All scarecrows need to be in place by Thursday, October 15. Judging will take place on Oct. 24. For more information, call the Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce at 547-3850; or Cathy Shoun, DBA president, at The Dressing Room, 542-3080.
