Frank “Cork” Archer

Frank “Cork” Archer, 90, Johnson City, passed away Monday, September 21, 2015, at his residence. He was a Johnson City resident and a son of the late Frank Edward Sr. and Letha Matheson Archer.
Mr. Archer was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He was of the Baptist faith and was a 32nd-degree Mason in the Watauga Lodge.
Mr. Archer was the former owner of Milligan Grocery. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. He was also an avid Atlanta Braves fan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha McCracken Archer, in 2010; a daughter, Sara Archer Roller; a brother, Tommy Archer; and a sister, Wanda Osborne.
Survivors include two daughters, Trudy Shearin and husband Jerry, and Alice Archer; a son, Stephen Archer, all of Johnson City; one brother, Gary Archer, of Georgia; one sister, Christine Bitner and husband Lewis, Johnson City; eight grandchildren, Chandra Shearin, Jason Shearin, Heather Morgan, Kendra Roller, Miranda Hampton, Garon Archer, Stevie Archer and Brent Archer; five great-grandchildren, Hunter Hensley, Stone Shearin, Tate Archer, Madeline Sara Morgan and Marley Archer; a special angel, Lisa, who brought happiness and meaning to his life; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted Thursday, September 24, at 7 p.m. in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5 to 7 p.m. The graveside service with military honors will be conducted Friday, September 25, at 10:45 a.m. at Mountain Home National Cemetery.
