The Elizabethton Cyclone opening night parade is set for tonight at 6 p.m. and those who will be traveling in or near to the parade route may find themselves facing some brief delays.
“Although the parade won’t start until 6 p.m., we will have to start shutting down traffic at 5 p.m. on some of the side streets in the area,” said Greg Workman, Elizabethton Chief of Police.
“Holly Lane will be one of the first to shut down, because that’s where the parade lines up,” Workman said. “The parade will then make its way up Holly Lane to G Street, down Bemberg Road and finally down Jason Witten Way.”
Main thoroughfare, G Street, will be close between Roan and Hudson beginning at 5:45 p.m. and will remain closed until after the parade passes.
“We expect the parade to last about 20 minutes,” Workman said. “As the parade flows through the intersections, those intersections will reopen to traffic.”
Workman urges those headed to the Cyclone game to get there early.
“Whether you’re parking at the stadium or elsewhere nearby, we are expecting a large crowd there tomorrow night,” he said.
“We have met with the city manager concerning traffic flow, and we have a plan in place,” Workman added. “Hopefully it will work out well, because we will use the same route later in the year for the homecoming parade.”
