Hobert Ward, 97, of Elizabethton, passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at his residence. Hobert was born on November 7, 1917 in Buckhead Ga., a son of the late Link and Tempia Whitehead Ward. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, and mother of his children, Lena Ward; his second wife, Dorothy E. Ward; two daughters, Peggy Ruth Ward and Evelyn JoAnn Ward Hobbs; and three brothers, Bill, Floyd and Earl Ward.
Hobert retired as a mechanic and was a United States Army veteran, having served in World War II. He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.
Survivors include one daughter, Cecelia Hunter and husband Thomas, of Ballwin, Mo.; a son, Henry Ward and wife Evelyn, of Summerville, S.C.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a special aunt, Charlotte Ward Pennell. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor and celebrate the life of Mr. Hobert Ward will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 29, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Justin Deaton officiating. The family will receive friends from noon until 1 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service. The graveside service will follow in the Butler Memorial Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Henry Ward, Steve Root, Jonathan Whitehead and others selected from friends and family. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hobert’s caregivers, Jane Willingham and Wilma Blackstone, for the love and care shown to Hobert during his illness.
