Austin E. “Junie” Abell Jr.

Austin E. “Junie” Abell Jr., 72, passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2015, following an extended illness.
A native of Louisville, Ky., he was the son of the late Evelyn and Austin Abell Sr.
Austin attended Flaget High School in Louisville. During that time, he met his wife Peggy. He attended Western Kentucky University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree.
Following his graduation, Austin joined the U.S. Army and married Peggy in 1967. After serving in the military, he began a long career with American Air Filter that brought him and his family to Elizabethton, Tenn. Nuclear Fuels Services is where he spent his remaining career before retiring. Austin was a member of St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Carol Cutsinger and Betty Stover.
He leaves behind his wife of 48 years, Peggy Abell; his son, Dr. Edward Abell and his wife Wendy; his daughter, Julie Mack and her husband Keith; granddaughters, Lydia and Molly Abell; and grandsons, Kellan and Kane Mack.
A Funeral Mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, August 28, at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church, 510 West C Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643, with Father Dennis Kress officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. till the service hour at the church. A private inurnment will be held at a later date.
